Marrow

When we were walking out of our local garden centre was one of their huge mobile shelving with "Free to good homes – Marrow Plants – not something we have ever grown, or eaten, but you cannot turn down a free plant can you?

It has one marrow on, but more fruit. I shall let you know whether we enjoy eating it in due course!

Anybody got any marrow recipes?

Chop it in half lengthwise, scoop out the middle, stuff it with whatever you like, cover it with foil and bake it.
Lovely with lots of different sauces.

Thank you Ginellie

What does marrow tastelike - is it courgette/cucumberish?

Well as far as I know (which isn't very far !) Marrows are just big courgettes but not having tasted either then I couldn't tell you ..........Shall I just shut up now? lol

It is a close relation to the courgette but with far less taste Marge, most of it is water. It's best eaten when no more than 12" long which is before the seeds have fully developed.
I think most people grow marrows just to see how big they can get, not to enjoy the taste.

those are zucchinis, they make nice chocolate cake very moist, or you can fry them in butter and have them with a meal. I like the chocolate cake the best

When I was little (many moons ago) my dad grew marrows and to encourage my sister and I to eat them he etched our names into them when they were small so that we would think something magic had happened as they grew. It didn't matter how they were cooked I didn't like them. maybe as a grown-up Mmm! I would like them but you know what they say about life being too short to stuff a mushroom? That is how I feel about stuffing a marrow. Now the thought of Pondlady's chocolate cake has a certain appeal. Oh! Yes!!!!! I have been bent over this lap-top so long it is going to take me ages to straighten up but I must get some beauty sleep (yes need lots!!) as my darling grandchildren are coming in the morning for the week-end so must muster up lots of energy. LOL

Hope you have a better night Ian. Love Sue

Hi John,
Try your nearest allotments. Talk to one of the committee members and I'm sure you'll be successful. Allotmenteers are very generous!
