Wet, windy, sleety and miserable - been like that all day today here in Sunderland. Just when we were getting used to the springtime!!!

all the best, hope it isnt as bad as you fear.

We covered up our baby pear tree last night and will again tonight, what a pain isnt it?

Appart from putting a few pots in the greenhouse I did nothing to protect our plants last night. Expecting a 'smear' in 'coastal regions' it was a surprise to find the six inches or so of heavy wet snow this morning. An inspection of the garden found minimal damage appart from a very large juniper that could not take the weight of snow. Erythroniums and trilliums were looking sad but are now perking up again as most of the snow has now gone (7pm).

Hi all thankyou so much for all your comments and support.I am so glad i did it though as we did get the snow as forecast as you can see on my new pictures.

Unfortunately i have lost a few as they couldnt take the weight and they snapped.

I have been out again today and added some extra bubble wrap to help protect from the deadly frost which is now expected for tomorrow morning. All i mainly wanted to do is protect my new plants which were planted early due to the fantastic weather we had last week.

Grandmage i fully agree it is a pain but well worth the trouble:))

Bulbaholic now the snow as cleared at your end ? Hope you havent had anymore snow and i do hope your plants will recover and i hope there wasnt to much loss.

It has just about gone from the garden, thanks, Mark. The ground is so warm from last weeks weather that I never expected it to stay. Most of the plants are now standing up again as though nothing happened. Poor old Molly the Witch (Peony) has taken a bashing though and a couple of stems are broken, pity but there are more younger stems coming up.

Hi Bulbaholic that is good news.I have been fighting the snow, the rain etc all morning trying to protect the garden lol.In the end i have given up and i made a wet snowman lol:)))

Like your wee mannie, Mark, lol. I believe that the best thing to do is to just enjoy the weather and don't worry too much. Most plants will recover quickly though you may lose a few flowers that were already out. We see this regularly when we go to the mountains. A dump of spring snow one night and a couple of days later the plants are all back to normal. We now have a couple of peony stems in a jar in the kitchen, they may well open up.

Hi Bulbaholic lol he as now fully melted away and i did enjoy the snow im a big kid at heart.Surprisingly enough i didnt lose any plants .Today i am finally going to take all the bubble wrap off ready for the rain thats coming.:)))
