Try Try Again!

Once more full of good intentions regarding this blog.
A lot has happened since the last contribution as I now have my own allotment to look after as well as keeping an eye on the original plot for my daughter in law. I’d really like to keep the blog going but we’ll just have to see!! Little and often may be the answer!
Today i’ve planted shallots 2 varieties PIKANT and GOLDEN GOURMET both sets from the local garden centre I was going to send away for them but postage charges always tend to put me off so I thought that I’d try these and see how they go. I also got some Pi-INK FIR APPLE seed potato Which I’ve always wanted to try but not had the space before. These are now up in the spare room in trays for chitting. Also some sweet peas to replace those earlier plants eaten by mice in the greenhouse ( they paid with their lives!). These are just showing so I guess they can soon go outside to the greenhouse and perhaps this time we’ll be luckier!
The weather forecast is for it to get colder tomorrow so it was nice to be able to get out on the plot today in comfort. Garlic , autumn onions early peas and broad beans all seem to be doing fine. Spring must be in the air even if it is still a long way off! I guess others felt the same as there was quite a lot of activity this afternoon with loads of snipping and tidying up all around. Any way that’s all for today

Hello and good luck with your allotment. Just a couple of points, if you have some kind of netting, cover those Broad Beans now, as the Magpies are about and can take the lot overnight.
I have grown Pink Fir Apple Potatoes for years, they are slow to mature, but if you wait until September to dig them you will be pleased with the result. Some years they will keep until April, you have reminded me to check the cardboard boxes for any that have rotted.
