A Month on>>

Well it’s about a month since the last contribution and though the weather hasn’t been that conducive to serious effort a few jobs have been sorted out. All the seed potatoooes are chitting away. This year as Isaid earlier we have decided to use daughter in laws plot primarily for basics i.e spuds and beans so decided to grow a couple of extra varieties. . That will be six in all, Charlotte, Duke of York ,Pink Fir Apple. Rocket, Rooster and Kestrel. The first three are new to me so it will be interesting to see what happens. We’ve been away for 10 days in sunnier climes and consequently missed the last cold snap more or less. On return I find that the Aquadulce broad beans sown back in November have had a bit of a shock but hopefully they’ll survive . I guess i should have fleeced them before we went away . Otherwise though both garlic and onions seem to be fine. I did a bit more digging on the spud plot this week but it’s still quite sticky, though not too bad. On my own plot the gooseberry bushes and raspberry canes have had a prune but really apart from that and a bit of tidying up I’ve not done a lot yet. In the greenhouse the sweet peas that survived the mice are doing O.K. The first seedlings have appeared in their trays this week ,leeks basil and violas but of the sweet peppers there’s not a sign.
Hopefully the weather will pick up a bit towards the end of the month and once again the work begins in earnest
By the way If your interested in composting try this system . I did last season and it’s great! http://www.bluewisteria.co.uk/tools/compost.php

You seem to have got lots of stuff coming on. Good luck. It must be great to have an allotment. I'm going to grow some vegetables in a small patch, and in pots aswell.
