Well I have finally broken the back of it. I am now sitting down with a well-earned mug of tea and a thick slice of buttered toast. Actually that is a lie – I have two mugs of tea. My daughter recently bought me some Yorkshire tea and I decided to do a taste test. So PG in one mug, Yorkshire in the other. Problem is I can’t remember which is which!!!
Anyway back to the garden. When we moved in nearly 40 years ago, we knew nothing about gardening and only wanted a lawn for the children. Being a new build there was so much rubble that we thought “Oh we will just chuck it up the end there”. Then that became a habit. Anything not wanted got buried there. The Rent man, that double glazing bloke who would not leave and, if I dig deep enough, I’ll probably find some of those hideous shirts that my husband insisted on buying in the 70s.
With regard to photos, I will ask him to post them for me as that is far beyond my capabilities.
I will just add, in case he decides to read this, that I really have no idea where that old Jacket is, and that, as ever, he is the height of sartorial elegance.

I second that - Yorkshire every time. Sounds like you have a good foundation for a well drained rockery at the bottom of your garden!

Yorkshire tea YUK!!! we have his/n/hers in my house, hubby has Yorkshire tea leaves and refuses to use a teastrainer, I swear you could use it to dye your clothing and I have PG Tips teabags cannot stand the thought of tealeaves in my cuppa, good in my compost though, lol...
We have a raised rockery bed at the bottom of our garden, started in much the same way, I dread to think what we'd find if it was actually removed as it was already a compost heap when we moved here in 1974, bet it holds a multitude of sins as the people who lived here previosly had originally moved here in 1947, its a very shady spot and over the years I've learnt which plants do well down there....

I would like to know what you are growing, Lincslass. Any photos. This area is backed by a brick garage so it is quite dry and shaded by a euonymus and a cherry tree and it faces north. In the past, conifers have done o.k there. Not sure what I will do yet. Getting lots of lovely ideas from GoY gang
