Harvest here

It all looks very attractive Pamela, and a splendid lot of food bank donations. Our chapel also had its harvest festival today but being very small it looked very different! We had a collection for our local food bank too.
I was thinking about the days when we used to have sheaves of corn as part of the display. Oats were (and are) my favourite. Judging by the look of your church it was probably built after the days when it was easy to ask the local farmer for some!

Yes, our building was built in 1970, so it's pretty well designed for modern use :)

I always used to associate marrows with harvest displays. I think I remember that was what we always took as a family when I was a child. And there were always loaves of bread, sometimes enormous ones, and often done in fancy ways like plaits. There was a lot more fresh produce used back then. But sadly these days we need the food banks. I wish we didn't have a need for them. I think it's a shameful thing in a country like ours that many people are so badly off.

Looks a lovely display. It is a shame that food banks are needed but great that churches like yours and stera collect for them.

I had to Google Johnny Appleseed.(" an American pioneer nurseryman who introduced apple trees to large parts of Pennsylvania"). Seems he was also well-known for his kindness to others less fortunate. Good man.

I remember the large plaited loaves. I used to wonder if anyone ever ate them!

Eirlys we used to have a salt dough loaf in the shape of a sheaf of corn at our Harvest - it was the same one from year to year so I don't think anybody would have wanted a bite!

Stera, your salt dough loaves reminds me of the birthday cake we used to have at school. The first few times it came out I used to wonder why we didn't all have some to eat but I thought probably it was because only the actual birthday child got it. Then it got to my own birthday at the end of the year and I still didn't get any. I was gutted! I'm not sure when I realised that it was a cardboard cake, not a real one :D

Oh that's dreadful! So many disappointed children there must have been. Shame as it was so kindly meant.

All looks so pretty and very welcoming, I am afraid there will always be a need for food banks, at least there are people around to donate, the thought that there will come a day when there aren't does not bear thinking about...
