Getting started 2009

I always wanted to have an allotment, and I did share one with a friend for a couple of years but it was in a less than ideal location for me so when she needed to give it up, my husband agreed to let me have the back left quarter of our garden to turn into a veg plot.I now have an area about 4m x 13 m (43′ × 13′) lying NE to SW. My plan for 2009 is to return here each week with a photo and progress made to date – my theory is that if I commit to doing this in a public place I will have to get on and do it, rather than procrastinating as usual. Otherwise you might be demanding to know why there has been no further progress. It is currently mostly grass and a dumping ground ie when my husband emptied the shed that’s where the content’s got put, and they’re still there! Now where’s that spade? Ok it’s dark here now. I’ll be on to it tomorrow, weather permitting…

Same here.

Welcome to GoY aswell. Are you really only going to come on once a week ? I only joined to ask a question and now find I can't go for a day without loging on for a few mins. It usually goes to much more than that too.

Hi Patchwork Mouse. Welcome to GoY. I too am looking forward to your updates.
You may find that you spend more time on here than once a week....LOL. This place can be quite addictive. The members are all very helpful and knowledgable should you run in to problems. Also we are a bit of a crazy bunch and have lots of fun. :o)

Yes, giving yourself the challenge of reporting back frequently to GoY will be a great incentive to get ahead with your gardening plans. Looking forward to your reports throughout 2009 :o)

i see what you mean about the rubbish,
noticed a compost bin lurking in the background, very usefull with a veg garden.plan out the patch and posistion the composter so you can have easy access with the waste veg peeling etc from the kitchen . when all that turf comes up , stack it green side down in a heap and in 12 months you will have great loam. hope this helps..................steve
