The mass excavation is over....rejoice !!

The last few days has seen my garden transform into a building site. The removal of 3 Hebes, a Ceanothus and an apple tree has been tough work.

This is the tree…

This is the hole I had to dig to get it out :

The other stuff I had to remove :

Im left with a very sorry, bare area

Seems like my policy of planting evergreens dotted with perrenials is suffering.

Still, Ive just planted some Sinocalycanthus and a nice Rhoddie and the various perennilas are poking through (assuming my clumsiness hasnt flattened them…) so hopefully in a month or so the bare area may have some colour apart from brown in it !!

that's a lot of work - I have a ton of Chinese privet that needs to go and also a gardenia that I hate - I am dreading even getting started!

Hi Paul - I bet you needed a rest after getting that tree out - I've got to get someone to remove a ceanothus for me too as it has more or less died off - it still has a couple of branches which are OK but as there is now so much dead wood it doesn't look very nice at all.

I'm looking forward to seeing your "after" pictures.

I think many of us are looking forward to colourful plants and bushes....the brown earth is all a bit depressing but you've got your area cleared and prepared now so I'm sure you'll enjoy choosing new plants and watching them fill your borders with colour, Paul. Good luck with your plans.
