Frustrated me but Very Happy Plants

Hi everyone.
Another productive day pottering yesterday. Sadly, today, we’ve got high winds and torrential rain. Oh well it’s frustrating for me but my plants are so happy I can almost hear them whooping for joy.
Sometime soon I have a decision to make.
For the past four years I’ve had a philadelphus which has gained height each year but refused to flower.
This year it reached the height of fifteen feet and decided to flower. In fact it’s bowed down by height and weight of the flowers.
In order maintain a yearly cycle of flowers what is the best way to ‘cut-it back’. How low can I take it without damaging it? Ideally I’d prefer it to stand no more than 6ft tall (because it blocks a window if taller).
BUT if I don’t cut it low enough this year it will be well above that by next Spring. Aaaaaaaaaaaaargh!!!!!!
Happy pottering
