An experiment I did with two Fuchsia baskets

An experiment I did with two Fuchsia baskets both Harry Grey cultivar.
The first picture a basket planted with cuttings taken last year and kept just ticking over through the winter.
The second basket planted with cuttings taken this year I think you will agree it isn’t worth the extra effort keeping the plants growing over winter in fact this years plants seem to have more vigour.

I think you are right Peter. We think its good to get an early start but very often, the plants catch up. But, these are both looking mightily impressive, I must say!

When did you take the cuttings Peter? They have come on briliantly. They seem to root more readily in the spring here but waiting for the stock plant to get going can mean a slow start. How many plants are there in basket?

Thank you Paul

The cutting were from the plants grown over the winter when they were stopped not sure when about march and the cuttings rooted in a heated propagator you are right they are slow to root at that time of year I use to keep a record of the dates but these days I don’t bother.
They are in 30cm Easy Fill hanging baskets about eleven plants this cultivar only needs one stop it self branches quite readily.

Eleven plants in each basket or between them? They look magnificent anyway.

Eleven plants in each basket there are six gates around the side of the basket and five plants in the top.
