I did see the underside but didn't get a photo and can't remember it well enough to describe. Will keep looking and try for another one - if the sun ever comes out again!

Apparently commoner in south of England and like damp woodland sort of ares .Underside lighter spots.Dont get them here in Yorkshire...or not seen one here !

There's a couple of hundred acres of woodland just the other side of the fence and there are several natural ponds in it - sounds ideal.

Think so Wagger...seen them where my father lives which is in your "neck of the woods " so to speak. He lives in Sonning Common,if you are familiar with it !

Know the area but not well - go to Nettlebed folk club sometimes. I think it's about twenty miles from here so not far.

Drive through Christmas Common and Nettlebed..reach Sonning Common ! Small world...lovely part of the world ! Love the twisty and windy roads .And the bluebell woods..sorry Wagger..reminiscing....

Don't be sorry - it's a beautiful part of the country - often go through or to Christmas Common. Lots of bluebells in the woods here - the far side of the woods but not far to walk. There's an amazing carpet of bluebells just north of Henley, I just had to stop and take photographs of it this year.

We have a picture of those bluebells in Cowsleaze Woods hanging in our kitchen.Often stop here and look out for the Red Kites as well !

Just look out of the window at those, lol. There's a dead oak tree just outside the garden and one of them perches on a bare branch of it - I think I posted a pic of it. My brother and his wife lie in bed watching a pair raise their family - that sounds incredibly idle, doesn't it - he is retired.

Yes saw the pic ! What a wonderful way to spend your retirement !!

I've had to look this one up Wagger and have come to the conclusion that it could be a Ringlet (Aphantopus hyperantus). Did you see the underside of its wings where the spots would have been more pronounced?
