Thats interesting Morgana , come to think of it how else could they keep an account of these things .. We had some friends who sold their house to have a narrow boat , they absolutely loved it . :o)

The narrow boat s can cost more than a house especially when they have to pay for mooring, also keeping the up keep of sealing the underneath,. lovely way of living though. I live next to a canal about 500 yds at the top of my lane. I can hear their horns go lol from my house. A lot of the working water gypsies with their families a lot could not swim believe it or not my friend her mother had 12 children also another family I know had 14 children thing of having that many children on one boat and working it too. I once drew the canal for a christmas card with a bridge for my friend for christmas, she said it was great but one thing missing the number of the bridge and asked me to put the number on where she was born on the canal. there are boards all along the canal by me with the stroies of the way the water gypsies lived their lives and what work was done there at different spots along the canal. and art work too

The photos were taken last year when Polly was well, Sadly Polly is no longer well enough to go out for walks but we are trying to keep her comfy and she does have good days when she enjoys short walks down the close. Thanks for your concerns Amy.

Its so Painful isnt it? but keep reminding myself of the wonderful times we have had and the most important thing now is to make sure that Pollly feels loved and safe with us,

2 Aug, 2009

I know that Polly will know that too and its alway s best to think of the good times and fun times you both have had. Lovely memories together is the best thing always, makes people happy looking back on them. They have now proven that is what makes peoples life happy looking back on good memories, not tv s or car, or money but memories.

Morgana you are bringing the canals alive for me , I went to bed last night trying to imagine where the big familys slept on a narrow boat and how on earth did mum get the washing done for all those people and get it dry . ?
...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPU_MD5Pga0 This is how they done their washing and working on the canals they hung their washing across the narrow boats here is a link from you tube if you can t get this link just type in you tube then canal life narrow boat and go to the 20s working life on narrowboats or type in canal life past. If you ever hear the names Grantham family or Mc Donald family these are the people I know. How they are doing their washing this is how I use to do my washing all by hand and wringing it all out by hand too. Look carefully and you will see the in the beginning the washing hung across the boats, and a woman washing by hand .The part of loading the coal at Coventry is where I live and the chap shoveling look to me like Mr Grantham.
