Funny you both say spooky. There is a legend about Nanjizal (Millbay) that a man called Jan Tregeagle who lived a very evil life tried to enlist the church to make amends before he died giving them all his money to help the poor. The churchmen prayed and tried exorcising him anyway he was so evil that he couldnt be saved and the Devil set him impossible tasks to complete to keep his soal out of hell. One task he was given was to take the sand from Porrthcurno Cove round the headland nto Nanjizal Bay. It is said on many a winter night if you are nearby you can hear Tregeagle howling and roaring at the hopelessness of his task. The sand at Nanjizal slowly disappears with the tide and uncovers the rocks I walked over so local legend says every 7 years he has to scoop up the sand and bring it back to Nanjizal. Now is that spooky. If you google Jan Tregeagle then you will see the other impossible tasks the Devil gave him.
