Hydranga

Hydranga

This shrub has lots of healthy looking foliage but this is the only flower this year. It is quite low down on the bush. Does anyone know why it is so short of flowers please?

Beautiful, love the lacecaps but don't know much about them, only that pruning at the wrong time can affect the flowering.

I cut it back to a new leaf bud in the spring, the same as I do to the ordinary Hydranga. I wonder if this is incorrect?

I've no idea, Gee but I'm sure somebody will enlighten us.

Gee I have the same problem this year no flowers at all, was told that I may have cut back at the wrong time, but like you I cut to new bud in spring, strange isnt it, hope it makes up for it next year!

Mine not done well at all this year.

I wonder whether to leave it unpruned next year although it is fairly large already.

Think its due to the weather Gee have climbling hydrangea that not flowered well either this year.

They only flower on new shoots Gee so leaving unpruned will result in increasing off shoots and centre of plant looking thin.

Thanks BB, I'll drop that idea then :)
