Not a big fan of hosta flowers but pure white and nice fragrance sounds good to me.

Ooo - now I'm not sure if this is the one I've got or not.....leaves look similar - solid green and glossy - but the flowers look different - more like the ones in Lori's picture. I'll have to look out for this one :-) Those flowers do look huge for a Hosta. I haven't sniffed mine yet, hopefully will this evening if it's not raining (it is now!)

I'm alot like you Bonkers, I've been known to break off hosta blooms as they emerge. Just not on this one...lol. I only bought this one for the bloom. How ironic is that...?...:-)

I went out to sniff my Hosta yesterday only to discover the there are no flowers on it as yet! Darn...I hate waiting for things! lol

I love hostas too David, they look great, and really brighten up my shady areas, and are so easy to grow. How can one not love them.

No, I did not have one to sniff, boo hoo for got Ialways cut the flowers down, will try next time sniff, sniff, how did I have to know.

My main plant still have not flowered, but a division of it it now in flower! I had a good sniff - the scent was not particularly strong, but was lovely! So, do you think mine is the same as yours? I need to take a photo really don't I. It's hard to smell anything in my garden at the moment because everything smells of cider from the falling apples!!!

OK Sid how about sending us some of that lovely English cider, mmm, I know Flcrazy, I just not crazy about the blooms on the plant, but it keeps ages in a vase, so I don't just chuck it.

Doon - don't talk to me about cider - here I am in real cider growing country, garden full of apples, lorries of apples thundering up and down the road all day supplying the local cider factory, whole county smells of apples, and I can't stand the stuff!!!!! LOL

Sid I'd hate to say for sure one way or the other, but your blooms open up more on the end than mine do. The petals on the end of my blooms don't open fully, they stay more bell shaped. All my mature blooms are a little over 6 inches long from the stem and 1 3/4 inches wide at the open tip of the bloom. Hopefully these measurements will give you a better idea of their size. I have sent you a PM, with a list of all the registered hostas that are fragrant. Hopely you will be able to name your hosta with more certainty with this list.....:-). Now that that's done, I could use a swig of cider myself...lol. Too bad I'm not to fond of the flavor myself, just fond of the warm feeling it evokes...;-)

No, if your flowers are 6 in long, then this is certainly not what I've got. You can see from my picture that they are quite big as hosta flowers go, but not that much bigger than the usual. Thanks for the list - I will have to google each one when I have time and hopefully I can wittle down the list.

Sid, try looking at the GOY online encyclopedia. Your uploaded hosta pic will have to the right of it "Featured on Hosta Plants". Click on this, and you will find the GOY encyclopedia page on this plant. You might just find one same as yours (just a suggestion, mind). :-)

Fl I have grown this hosta for many years mainly for the scented flowers as the leaves themselves are rather boring, I grow about 20 different varieties, would grow more, but, husband is not keen, quote not another hosta they are taking over the border(yes it is a hosta border dear, and what do you grow in a hosta border..........!!!!!!)
Going back to your pic, your flowers are longer than the ones that my hosta produces, perhaps different habitat and all that.

I've never really researched this hosta until SId asked about it Dotty, could very well be that hers is the royal standard and mine was labeled wrong... Would you mind going to Sid posts and seeing if hers looks like yours. Sid, maybe I'm the one who should be going through that very long list of fragrant hostas I gave you...lol . I believe I will, my curiosity is peaked now...;-)

Have answered the question, as you know, mine were all very congested this year, have split and replanted, hence no flowers.........

There are so many different types of Hosta..........the flws look longer on this one tho than mine. Mine one that is flowering is a small division of the parent plant, which is very large. It hasn't flowered yet, but is sending up the spikes - seems very late as all my others have already flowered and gone over.......

Sid the flowers are certainly longer than the ones that grow on mine. As I say this one has not flowered this year.
