Wow Amy! Are they hazel nuts?

They are kent cob nuts Dawn , a lovely nut , I bought this about 3 yrs ago , usually I,m to late collecting any as the squirrels get in first , I knew they were ready as soon as I saw all the empty shells under the tree , I managed to save some this time , I have some hazel nuts in the hedgerow they had those ages ago , they must mature earlier ... ..:o)

Thanks for explaining Amy, they look similar to hazel nuts, dont they. Your grandchildren will have a lovely time eating your peaches and nuts etc.
So do they taste similar to hazel nuts.

Like Dawn...I haven't heard of them before Amy, they look quite large, similar to Hazelnut or Filbert?

They are more like the Filbert nut Dawn /Janey they are bigger and crunchier . and a lovely nutty taste ... .. :o)

You have the room Dawn , it,s nice to have one since we lost our Walnut tree ... the baby walnut is growing but it will be years before it has any nuts .. You do have to outwit the squirrels to have your share ..LOL..

I'll look into getting one Amy - so is the tree called a Kent Cob Nut?
Our walnut tree seems OK this year, its been in now about 7 years and still no signs of nuts.
As regards squirrels, well ... I'm a bit upset as I found 2 dead ones on our woodland paths last week - I think someone is shooting them and they've come to mine to die :-((((

We have a twisted hazel that has nuts on so should we be picking them off now while they are still green?
23 Aug, 2009
You should leave them until they are turning brown really Lindak but we never can because the squirrels have them first , these have a decent sized nut in , the grandchidren are eating them :o)
23 Aug, 2009
Thanks Amy I shall have to keep watch as they have the squirrels taking their nuts across the road.
