Looks good! are the rounds easy to walk on in all weathers? I'm paranoid about slipping, as my pace is'nt too steady,

I was wondering what you sealed them with ti keep them from rotting?

I suppose one could use a weatherproofing liquid, same as for wooden fences? I've read about decking; a couple of books say that one should put chicken wire over it if near a pond, because they get slippery when wet - that might be because of varnish, though.

I love this look and use of wood. My question: how do you avoid termites?! The last thing I would want to deal with is termites here in the south. Obviously...the would is treated. I would love to see the details on how to actually do this at home yourself!

I suppose you could seal it and while it is still wet put some sand on it. It would seal it so that termites can't eat it and the sand would make it not as slippery .

Wish I had seen this earlier when I had a redbud removed. Love the look... does sand really work on wood?

good thought, Lei! if it's glued on it should stick, at least for a while, I'd imagine that constantly being walked on might weqr the sand off the tops, so they'd need replenishing once in a while, but that's a sheer guess

Re: Question about termites: I read that termites are repelled by cedar wood. Whether you would have to use just cedar wood or if other wood with cedar scattered throughout or cedar shavings would work, is something to look into.

Mold? Not sure if soaking them in bleach first would be helpful or ruin the wood. Baking soda, vinegar and corn meal have all been reported to deter mold in various situations; some suggestions to look into.

Absolutely in sheer awe at how gorgeous this is!! I can just see all the faries and brownies peeking out of this garden. Just spent this evening with my aunt who wants to update her patio/sunroom/garden area. I can't wait to show her this. I know she will do her best to make her area look like this little piece of heaven on earth!!

So here is the Answer to most Of Your Questions Having Done This ,and It Really Does Come out looking amazing. First don't Worry about Rot by simply Painting on a few coats of water Based Water Proofer to both sides of the wood . The same as used on decks and Fences . If you are in an Area where you would Worry about Termites simply buy a few blocks of candle wax melt in pot and brush on to bottom side of wood also Good for extra water proofing All as someone had said in one blog Placing Cedar chips in the soil around the logs will help and Baking Soda Will keep the Weeds Away just Sprinkle some in and Water it in. Finally don't worry about Slipping On These Logs As they are Usually Cut By Chain Saw And Will Have A Rough and Rugged surface as is. Don't use Sand Between Coats it will prematurely peal off the water Proofing Finishes you use. Thanks for Reading hope this Answers all your Questions

How did you cut the wood ?

How many inches thick is each piece? We just had a huge tree cut down and plan to do this, just not sure how deep each piece of wood is?

We are in the process of doing this right now! It is quite the process. I dug out a few inches in the pathway area. I laid weed barrier and then each slice, which are about 3-4 inches thick. I am leveling them with sand, then mulching around them so all is level. We cut them thick to avoid rot and to provide enough real estate to anchor them in nicely. Cedar is light and I don't want them to float every time it rains!

Well, mason sand under and around the cedar pavers did not work. Just replaced with crusher dust. Waiting to see if it works:(

We're thinking of doing something like this in my daughter's preschool playground. I'm also wondering how thick each piece is cut and what was put down for material underneath to provide a stable base so they don't sink. Thanks!
