There amazing things though, I had one WAY back about 20 years ago, my mum gave it me to cheer my place up and it kept growing runners? which kept growing runners and so on, it circled the room by the time I finally got rid of it! ! !

I got my very first plant from a baby spider way back in 1966! How do I remember that? Easy I was looking for my very first job after leaving school because my family moved up here from London & I had to get a job. I had to sign on at the Youth Employment Office every week & in the offices, in the waiting room, there were several old plants & I "rescued" a couple of baby plants before I got a job & stopped going there.
The plants were still growing when I left for Spain in '72. Years later when I returned they had gone though.

are you sure that's not a Triffid???
I was given a couple of Spiers years ago: all that I have now are from it - I wish I'd kept count of the generations, must be into g'g'g'g'g'g'grandchildren by now.
Mine are all plain green, with no cream stripe. I had some of each, but I don't know if the stripe ones just didn't last or if they revert in the prescence of all-green ones.
I find it odd that they only put out the plantlets when they're slightly pot-bound - which presumably means they never do that in the wild, unless they grow somewhere that's a bit cramped.

I've only ever grown the cream & green striped one, I've never grow the plain green one! None of my plants have ever reverted. As for when they put out the long stems with many plantlets at the end I don't think they need to be potbound for that, they produce them at the same time as they flower. I have a "baby" one on our living room table (our granddaughter insists on calling it the "lounge"!) that's been there for two years & it produces enormously long stem with flowers & plantlets. The one in the kitchen is still going strong & now it's even trying to get out of the pot it's been in for the last 5 years!
The council often use them in garden displays here & all the plants produce these stolons with flowers & plantlets.

the gardening book I use says they grow plantlets when "slightly potbound", no idea of the reasoning behind that - they can't grow under the soil so they grow over?? I like to give my plants plenty of leg-rooml and they've all got plantlets - not to the extent of yours, but mine are all babies compared to yours!
Read somewhere that Spiders help to clean the air, especially in offices and around computers - something about negative ions, though no idea whether they produce them or get rid of them.
