I haven,t seen any in our garden this year but I know they are there , they leave their deposits around and are using the hoghouse ...

whats your hoghouse like amy? maybe i should have one , i left some cat food out and was gone this morning so i hope he got that

It's a wooden box with a kind of tunnel coming out of the side Sandra . my hubby buried the box part under a bank of soil leaving the entrance tunnel exposed at the front and filled it with dry leaves , it seems to work ! it was a home made affair :o)

They're awesome little things aren't they?
Ali wants one in the garden to attempt to control the slug invasion but I had to explain that good as Tesco are, they don't do everything!!!

thanx amy, how big is the box, shoe size, or smaller, more square, maybe baz could make one for our garden..
lol Dan,, thats funny,, i was told never to have a gate which touched the ground because there is no way in if no gaps, so have you got space for them to come into garden
3 Sep, 2009
We have actually got some gaps under the fence in the bottom corner under the conifers so may look at that next year...

Ours is about 18 inches square Sandy .. you might need room for a family ... LOL..

We had 2 frogs come to our front door a few years ago. We thought they had come back to our pond, and got lost, as we had put up a new fence in the back garden so I brought them through the house and put them in the pond. There are still frogs in there now, not sure if they are the same ones as before as they all look the same to me lol perhaps they are the offspring!

awww how nice richard, i love them and thats one reason i want a pond here, did you give them a door key just incase they forget their way again lol :o)
5 Sep, 2009
Hee Hee Sandra I didn't give them a front door key for 2 reasons
1- they weren't 18
2 - they might have wild parties here 'croaking on down' with the other frogs, toads and hedgehogs in the street lol
5 Sep, 2009
can just picture that richard, all dancing and pint i hand lol
6 Sep, 2009
lol Sandra - can he (or she) get in to your growhouse through that little gap in the corner and munch on all of your plants?
6 Sep, 2009
dont think so richard but even if he/she does no plants on bottom shelf, god hope they cant climb or use a ladder heheh
6 Sep, 2009
I think you'll be OK there Sandra. Do you know what happens to them in the winter, when I was in school some of my pals used to keep them in cardboard boxes filled with straw - don't know if you are allowed to do things like that anymore
6 Sep, 2009
i guess they find somewhere warm and dry, someone was telling me you can get hedghog boxes to put in garden or make your own, 18inch square with a tunnel, cover the box in a mound of ground or undergrowth with the tunnel showing and pop some straw inside, ive asked baz to make one if he gets chance
6 Sep, 2009
It sounds like you could make one with a square plastic bucket on its side, or upside down on top of a flagstone and make a tunnel from a length of drainpipe, or something a bit larger. You could put straw inside and cover it all with a mound of earth possibly lol. Even put a cardboard box inside the bucket so it would be warmer.-just an idea --I'm always looking for ways to make things myself lol:-)
6 Sep, 2009
like you say making it yourself and the plastic would help with warmth richard.. are you going to give it a go :o)
6 Sep, 2009
No Sandra I've not seen any hedgehogs in our garden but if I did I'd make one as it would be his gift for catching the slugs lol
6 Sep, 2009
lol think thats why i havent had so many slugs richard, anyway i bid you goodnite, long day and tierd, nite richard
