Lodoiecea maldivica - Double Coconut Palm

1 of 3 rare double coconut palms growing at Foster's Botanical Garden in Honolulu, HI. This very rare ultra-tropical palm is mostly grown in tropical botanical gardens. The Palm has the largest seed of any tree in the Plant Kingdom. Photo taken August 5, 2009.

The double coconut is much more teneder than Cocos nucifera.
The double coconuts take as long as 5 - 10 years to ripen.
