We still have a very active railroad system, this is the engines pulling the double decker tour cars from anchorage through denali and on to fairbanks. Much more lovely than the coal or oil trains. :-)

Thanks guys. This bridge can be watched from dragonfly creek this side of the river at the waterfall. A lovely but almost overused place.

The mountains are lovely too

This is the base of Mt Healy. It has 11 peaks and stretches for 22 miles. The peaks were socked in with raincloud.

Beautiful...I even like to see them in the clouds. Mountains are so wonderful.

This is the Alaska range, home of Mt Mckinley. That peak is just 80 miles from this spot. I'll post a few more shots for you, I left them out for some reason. :-)

Is the elevation there anything like it is on the Durango to Silverton run in Colorado?
16 Sep, 2009
Thank you Arlene and Catfinch. Actually the elevation here in this photo is only 1100ft. That is part of the reason Mt Mckinley has the highest rise in the world top to bottom at 20,000ft. Alaska is surprizingly flat and low for all the mountain ranges that poke up out of it.

I spent so much time in Colorado being light headed..we were at 7-8000 ft. where we were most of the time..and then on up to 11,000 as we drove over a pass...I was afraid to stand up..the train was high too..but getting to the train is where I felt the worst..coming from sea level it takes around a months time to adjust to so little oxygen...

If you do it again, try some mate tea. The caffiene helps the brain oxigenate. They drink that in Peru for elevation sickness.

Thank Aleyna. Still one of my favorite spots on the road. Theres a waterfall to sit by and watch the time pass. :-)

Did I miss a picture of the waterfall, or you didnt post any?
And sounds great to sit by a waterfall and watch the nature heart beat :o)

Not a good pic of it Aleyna, the water was almost dried up when I was there. Looks like a rock wall in the thumbnail on page 2 or 3 I think. It is wonderful early or midseason. This spot is really spectacular. Next year I'm devoting a good visit and some hiking. There is another falls further up the mountain same creek. I draw water from that one, sooooo fresh.
Just happened on it so I collected a link:
