Ah ha! Looks like it's not just wallabies that are munching on my new plants!!

We hear lots about kookaburras lately much smaller than I imagined

Drc726 - this one is still a juvenile so he'll grow bigger. This species is the Laughing Kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae) and the adults grow to around 47 cms tall.

Looks like you have a real problem with all these creatures Bernieh .!!

Hey Bernieh can you believe I had a kookaburra in my garden about 5 years ago, my husband was at that time working, a sunday I remember it well, I phoned him and said there is a Kookuburra in the garden, bless he thought I had turned to the bottle, "silly man" anyway he did not believe me but I knew what it was as I had just not long returned home from Queensland after visiting my sister, the following friday on the front of our local paper head lines said Farmer caught Kookaburra in field,it had escaped from one of the big stately homes here.it was such a beauty. I love them. needless to say I had an apology from my other half.

Yorkshire - that was a great yarn... I giggled out loud at that one. Poor hubbie ... it's amazing to me that our native birds would be spotted over there. Although I do feel sorry for that poor thing as it probably wouldn't be able to fly far at the stately home ... but I bet it was having a glorious time when it escaped. Thanks for the giggle - great story.

I don't see them Bernieh, but I hear them, we have an oval one street behind us and when I sit out on the patio I hear all sorts of birds.

Star - I consider myself rather lucky as I live out in bushland and am surrounded by all sorts of birdlife and wildlife. The birdsong here in the morning is amazing - and it changes throughout the year. The kookaburras are a constant though - you get just about set your clock by them for the dawn and the dusk.
