Fuchsias & tomatoes in basket on balcony 2009-10-12 (Fuchsia)

Fuchsias & tomatoes growing in a hanging basket together on my balcony. I got quite a few small tomatoes from this plant!

The Fuchsia was supposed to be Miss California but it doesn't fit the description on the label nor the description for Miss California I've been able to find.

I have 4 plants of this one & I love them!

A good crop and I can see why you like that Fuchsia!

Thank you for your comment, PP. :-) I was surprised to get so many tomatoes on the plant. I don't know how it got in there, must have been from when a tray of seedlings fell off the table in the balcony & I didn't realise for a few days. I lost all the seedlings of course but at least one ungerminated seed must have been in the compost. I reused it for the hanging baskets & a few weeks later I discovered it when it had made several pairs of true leaves. I thought I would leave it & see how it developed, now I'm glad I did! :-)

The Fuchsia was labelled "Miss California" but it looks nothing like that one at all. The description of the flowers on the label reads: "Semi-double pink & white flowers". These are not semi-double nor are they pink! The photo is a pretty good version of how they are perceived by the naked eye.

The picture on the label shows the flowers as having upcurved sepals & white skirts with some pink veining near the waist. The shape of the buds is the same as on the label.
