Pansy, yes - it probably is the same, they pop up everywhere if the plant's happy there - just like Alice finds !
The flowers are like a small pansy and a purple-blue colour Spritz.

Alice - hahaha.
I think I may have this....if I can only remember where?? Would it be in a shady area?
23 Oct, 2009
Yes, Spritz, they're best suited to shade.

OK - I shall hunt for it in the undergrowth! ;-)

It does spread, and change colour, it should be very dark , keep mine in a sink now to keep it away from undesirables!!

It does seed itself where it pleases, but to be honest, it looks good almost everywhere.

Mine doesn't seem too badly behaved yet ;-)

I am a great fan of the Viola family. V. labradorica is regarded by some as a weed. Not so by Jb. I encourage them and other violas such as V. rivinniana, V. reichenbachiana, V. rupestris rosea, V. cucullata & V. odorata. The last one has a lovely, white-flowered form which is one of the first to bloom, in late March. My first sighting of this one was after a very bleak winter and it was flowering away, deffiantly, under a hedge. An experience 'out of this world'.

How lovely Jb.
I really like this one.

By the way, the one in my icon pic. is V. palustris (Marsh violet) which is is not too common away from its ideal habitat.

It's a gorgeous colour :-)
P.S.
How's the owl tonight ?? Is he busy on the bird feeder again ? ;-))
