most of it is done with a chain saw to get the basic shape and then chissels and files down to sanding.i should think it took quite a while maybe into the hundreds of hours. i love it and id love to do some wood sculpting.the down side is if you shop to much off.the up side of cement is it wood be quicker, last longer and your adding material rather than taking it away.id imagine you wouldnt get the detail quite so intricate but i would do anything arty and i love a challange.i wish i could put my name to it its realy nice.if you did knock a piece of you could just add it back on. im not trying to take anything away from this artist as it is brilliant and he is a very skilled man.i cant start getting into wooden sculptures to but never say never.im learning water colours now but after my first class the man who did the teaching had a stroke . just my luck .someone did come up and ask how long id been doing water colours and i said it was my first ever .she said are you doing it out your head.i said yes and she said i woudnt need much training.im there for tips perticuler to water colours.i normaly just do portraits with black background but after doing like amies elephant with mount kilomanjarro behind it and some other art ive realised how much more alive they can look with a bit of background even if its just a subtle bit to round of the picture.you never know i mite love it and get right into landscapes . im doing it with an open mind and i never say never.anyway im running on again.lovley piece of art take care bye for now xx

Good luck with your water colour lessons Leigh , i'm sure you won't need to be shown very much ... I love my Elly pic. and don't think you could have done anything different ... we have some nice lumps of Beech wood here if you decide ypu want to try your hand at shaping something . :o)) xx

They're not that big Leigh they are in blocks ready for the fire , some are bigger than others o.k to practice doing small objects , it's lovely beech ,, yes we do have a chainsaw ! I don't think the wood is big enough for a chainsaw though .....
