The tuber at the bottom that grows, is used in spices I don't know the english name of the plant,its gets these lovely white flowers,
If I can explain the tuber is used for the yellow colour that you get in indian food called tumeric.

Very beautiful inflorescence!
Think I know this plant. It's Curcuma longa (Curcuma domestica, Turmeric), belongs to Zingiberaceae family.

~the ones we usually have or sale in the uk at Wyevale Homebase etc are a totally mauve colour~ I can never get them to grow the following year~

Arlene the tubers in the ground on my side makes them grow again,maybe its the warm weather,I have new leaves and at some point it will flower again

You probably have to use "plant in full sun" planting directions at your discretion.I have found many plants that say "full sun" are not talking about desert full sun.
