This is the second largest monitor lizard in Australia - they can grow to 2 metres long from head to the tip of the tail!

Bscott - they certainly have impressive markings ... but about being sweet - they have nasty sharp teeth and claws. Usually they will run away from you - but I wouldn't like to get too close to them.

This one isn't fully grown yet Simbad - he was just over a metre long. They can get to around 2 metres.

I've seen it climb up that gum tree outside the chook pen and then climb down the other side before - but this morning it was obviously too hungry for that!

WOW!!! That's one big lizard! Do they bite?
I don't think I would want to be too close
to this lizard!

Yes they sure can bite Andy ... horrible sharp teeth! But I've never been close enough to find out how excruciating that pain must be ... I always give these lovelies a very wide berth!

Bernieh:
Wow! That's a good idea...give them a lot of room.
I do the same with our alligator lizards...which
are not afraid of humans and can give a nasty bite
...however, they only grow to 24 inches / 61cm max.

Great photo fascinating to watch from a very long way away don't like the sound of big teeth and claws!
