Wild Penstemon barbatus

These scarlet penstemon were all over in the canyon, blooming their heads off! I just had to post a few, since they were so loud and wonderful

Thank you all. And I think that is it for sure, Wagger. I looked it up and its a western US native called St Josephs staff, which gets me cause I'm Joseph the fifth from a family from this valley!. Now I like them even more.....lol.

Lol...Joseph... and well done Wagger on the ID :o)

and, sorry if I've lost track, but where exactly is this canyon please ?

This is above Fillmore, Utah where my parents were born and raised and my great grandfather started the ranch. This is the Fishlake National Forest up Chalk Creek Canyon above town.

We have them growing on the rock garden at Kew but they cannot compare to these!

I'm always amazed at a plant in its native environment. Seemed the local hummingbird and them had an aggreement of some sort. This was its flower of choice.
