Amy I`ve just bought a Sarcococca Confusa I think the leaves on yours look a lighter green, but as mine is still a tiny one as yet I cant really tell.

Very nice Amy, It doesnt get too big either , does it?

The leaves on mine seem to be slightly lighter one side than the other Stroller , i'm not sure why ! I will keep an eye on it .....
I don't think they grow much more than 3ft Dawn this this is only about 18" ...

That's unusual. I've never seen this plant

Never seen the berries on this one, but smelt the lovely flowers, think the one I've seen must be different variety as it flowers winter time (christmas box).

I remember us bringing this home in the car , we couldn't believe how overpowering the scent was that the tiny flowers were giving off ... If it was a huge shrub the scent would fill the garden ........ I don't know what the one is that flowers in the winter Kathy .. !

We went to Hodsock Priory must have been february time Amy to see snowdrops, there was a whole hedge of it the smell was as you say overpowering, couldn't see where it was coming from at first then realised it was these tiny flowers, remember the label near it said sarcococca (christmas box) .Will have to search it in google :-)

oooowww Amy, I'm quite excited, after seeing your beautiful plant, I spotted one this morning on my walk with Bonnie - lucky I had a plastic bag in my pocket, wink
28 Nov, 2009
Lol Dawn :-)
28 Nov, 2009
Could you have resisted Kathy? lol.
There was a nice small shrub next to it with black berries - looks like a cotoneaster but I dont think it is one, I think is has orange flowers earlier in the year - do you know the one I mean?
28 Nov, 2009
These berries remind me of blackcurrants!

Dawn ..LOL... I hope it ' Takes ' for you .... :o) I thought the other shrub with orange flowers and then black berries sounded like a Berberis Darwinii .... but that dosn't really look like a cotoneaster , I don't know about that Dawn ...........
I'm pleased that you know what the scent is like Kathy , isn't it gorgeous ? ...
The berries are the size of Blackcurrants PG ... I wouldn't like to try eating them !
28 Nov, 2009
What a coincidence Amy that I saw your plant only a few yards up the road, lol.
I've just googled Berbeis Darwinii and your are correct!!! Clever girl. On my second walk with Bonnie (no, I didnt, lol) I had another look at this plant and I noticed the tiny leaves were the shape of holly, so you were spot on. Going on the wish list ....

Oh I am pleased Dawn , not that you didn't ( it was probably to prickly for you ..LOL ) but that it is what it was ! I have one outside not far from my back door and when it sheds some of it's little prickly leaves they tread inside and cling to things ...LOL...
28 Nov, 2009
By the way Dawn Long tailed tit love nesting in Berberis .... they are safe in the prickles .....
28 Nov, 2009
Aww Amy, an even more important reason to get one them. It did look pretty prickly. The shrub I saw was quite small but had a real thick trunk on it, I would guess its been there for years. I love these shrubs that flower earlier in the year and then berry in the autumn.
28 Nov, 2009
I do to Dawn , it's like getting two for one .. :o)
I'm off now . , i'm putting chestnuts on the fire . :o)

A lovely crop of berries Amy, Ive heard about the beautiful perfume from this plant before, its one that I will remember and try to track down next year.

I think I bought this one by accident because it was in a bunch of others going cheap .. pure luck as I didn't know what I was getting , I hope you find one Carole :o)
