That's a lovely big Acer, Steve, i love it :-)))

Beautiful Acer they are so decrotive and colour full through out the seasons until the leaves drop.

I now have to prune it back every year..I don't mind the leaves, it's all part of the Japanses garden ethic (well, that's my story.)

How old is it ?
Did you plant it and how tall was it when you did ?
I thought they were very slow growing plants :-/

:o) It would be interesting to know if this fence survived winds and storms ...

The fence/screening has been there for quite a few years, but it actually hides a roof sheeting fence put up by the neighbour so it doesn't have to cope with the wind on its own. The acer was pretty small when planted (in the ground), but has grown pretty well, so much so I have to prune every year to keep it in bounds!

I'm afraid the changes in format have foxed my atempts to keep up with you all- sorry about that. Steve

Thanks for that, Steve. It's a bit more encouraging to hear it has fared well. It did look sturdy with a frame around it. I hope you will check in from time to time...you will soon pick up the new format :)

I just can't find comments etc..very frustrating! But the gardening goes on apace, new vegetable garden to struggle with this year, and new rose beds.

Hi Stevey can you tell me what that screening is and where you bought it from - it looks great and is exactly what I need. Piglet

I found it didn't last at all well Piglet, but my garden is rather windy. It was about £25 for a 4 metre long roll. Possibly Steve found one that is a bit better, or your garden may be more sheltered.

I expect the bamboo bit is as you suggest, Beattie, although I don't remember paying quite that much. After a few years as plain bamboo, I framed it in cheap batten, sandwiching the bamboo between two frames and screwing through. A quick lick of paint (not terribly well applied!) and the result has been there for perhaps another 5 years so far. It's survival has been helped by the neighbours steel roof sheeting fence - the reason for the screening, as it isn't particularly good looking!
