Was this once a farm as I have lived on one and also they use to have wash rooms as an out buildings even though I still think farrier as would explain the water to cool the metal.

I amazed all over again at how quick you all are..Have tried the museum and library, and Hamphire recrods office...managed to find an estate map, shows the building but no details. I think Morgana is right again, pretty sure my house outbuilding was a a wash house at one time (and also used to keep pigs in!) think there was a chimney for that reason. Next door down the street has a chimney on theirs still.

The farrier use was certainly there, but late on (to 1993)..whether that was an earleir use..that's the problem.

I think the photo was early 1980s. The building was gone by mid 90s.

Local people must surely know more about the building ?

I have talked to neighbours and others with local knowledge..hence the theories so far ..

Don't get time team in they excavate but never put any back so I have been told.

I think my garden isn't enough to keep time team interested! But yes, love to go back in time and see how they were living. I'm sure we would all go " of course!" when we realised what the chambers were for..

I think it would be as the area you live. No I don't think all would want to go may be to see not to live like as I have and its cold sleeping and keeping yourself clean when no heating or having to live outside as most did then. If you ever visit the black country they have a museum its called the Black country meuseum which is a town that has nt changed shops pub, all you can go into, watch the men make things like they use to years ago.

Have you tried looking through the old census records to see if you can find anything? The 1841 census probably won't give any indication but the 1851 and later records might.

Have looked at who lived in the houses it probably belonged to..no parchment makers, but there was a brick maker..but he could have worked at the local works.

Have you tried victorian plans of old out buildings.

I have looked, haven't found. I have also looked into privvy design..what an exciting life I lead!

Forgot scroll a little you will see a building which use to be an old wash house same shape building as yours, this one has been done up for a holiday home.

Yes, good likeness..I think the buildings would have been used for washing, almost certainly..how that fits with the chambers, I don't know; unless the arched chabers were used to dump the used water..the clean coming from the well just behind the houses.

You said the chambers keep filling with water, does that mean it comes from under ground or rain water. So your out building must of been built around the 17th centry for the shape of the chambers.

Mostly ground water , I think; the bricks seem to indicate late 17th century..but in the country I suppse they would follow earlier forms.

Shame my nan is dead, I could of asked her about the bricks as her family owned a brick factory years ago hence her maiden name being Mason, I supose.
