Oh what a beautiful scent..and you can smell the lemony scent for miles! We saw these Magnolia Grandifloras in Georgia, USA, and were so taken by them we planted one here. We didn't ecpect it to reach the same scale as the US ones, but it has taken very well, and in 8 years is a really substantial tree, flowering from the second year, and getting more prolific each time..

Such a pretty flower and nice pastel colour, lovely when you have scented too.

I only know it as Magnolia Grandiflora..sorry. It is such a lovely tree though, and puts up with our climate well, and it's had to put up with being planted into quite rubbly ground.

The scent is the thing which I love most, althought the blossoms are huge and lovely too..and the tree is pretty attractive.

Thank you Andrew was just wondering because of the last winter we had as they say they are not frost hardy, so if I see one going I can buy one.

You often see them planted against the south front of big houses. This gives them added protection and the wall acts wih a night storage heater effect, storing heat during the day and giving it out again in the night. In mild areas, they can be grown as free-standing trees

Thank you Andrew I don't think then this one would survive in my area as I am not in the south and have recently learned that the Midlands where I live gets the coldest weather.
