Runner Beans

There has been a lot of chat this year in the media about saving your own seed. So, what you are looking at here is next years seed beans. The brown ones are Painted Lady and the pink ones are a variety called Enorma. Some also managed to find themselves into a very fine bean stew! Ymmm

Do you soak before planting, I think beany bear might like some of these.

29 Dec, 2009

No need to soak the beans prior to planting. Just station plant, a pair of beans per cane and water in well. We grow them in loo roll inards filled with compost. That way we can get them started in the greenhouse when it might be too cold outside. You could grow them equally well in pots, but we plant the loo roll and bean seedling together. The loo roll cardboard rots down and it saves disturbing the roots when planting.

Yes thats exactly what I do as no disturbence then to the seedling when need to be transplanted.

You are already a pro!. Good luck with your bean crop 2010. We'll expect pics of your successes.
