They have a while to go yet

Blimey Hywel - it took them long enough to pop through as it is and then I end up with this!!

By the way, any magical reason why has my Christmas cactus (called mother-in-law's tongue over here) has decided to dig his heels in and not to produce any lovely flowers for me ???? !!!!!

The cactus needs a dormant period and lower temperature to get it flowering.

Thanks Hywel. So it shouldn't really be sitting on my office table and would be much better off outside on the windowsill?? (our windows open inwards!)

They need to have a dryish cool period to bring them into flower. Don't put it out if it is frosty. When buds appear give it more warmth and feed.

Thanks a lot Hywel.

It's called photoperiodism....it needs longer nights than days. in November leave it where it is dark and cool....that should bring on blossoming.

Whatever it may be called Lori - it is still a great disappointment, as the other three have come out exactly the same !!!! Someone suggested that perhaps I had planted them too deep ... ah well, better luck next year!

I was referring to the blossom timing of the schlumbergera... agree about the hyacinthes though... when planting outdoors they say to plant them 4 to 6 inches deep...you can, however get a specific vase for the forcing of hyacinthes and other bulbs... they look like a flattened carafe...with a narrow neck and a cup to hold the bulb...the bottom is filled with water...that would be easier than using the soil aye?

Will I be able to use these bulbs for next year ??? Thanks for the tip Lori, I will most certainly try the vase next time.
