Hi folks...Yup - I'm still around!! I have put a couple of these back on as I was trying to help Troy track down the name of her one she was asking about.....but sadly I can't find it for her. If any of you folk know anything about lilies - have a look at the Q "Can anyone tell me the name of this lily" she put on today!!

T&M sold a "Tree Lily Collection" last year but unfortunately didn't name them. or I lost the label ...LOL It was just so VERY tall!!

Many thanks for naming it Amblealice - I will now put a label on it!!
If it isn't "actually a tree lily" - I wonder why it grew about twice the height of the ones from T&M that were so named!!!!!

never seen these before, its stunning. are they scented?

Yes Mageth they do have a scent. I've grown them it pots for the last 2 seasons, and have noticed that they don't like the wet very much.
Did you have your's in pots Alz? don't know why they grew that tall, mine stayed "normal" size.
I was trialling "tree" lilies last year for T&M, some grew quite tall, others stayed small. I think the name "tree lily" is a bit "tongue in cheek".....they are really, in my opinion, just lilies that can grow quite tall....nothing "tree" about them really.

I concur, AA !!!! Some of my so-called Tree Lilies - which I grew next to my new trellis - so that I could support them when they needed it - didn't need support..LOL
Those that I popped into pots - when I ran out of trellis space grew to the same - very indifferent height. But Miss Lucy - having the non-staining stamens - I deliberately grew in the sitootery ie the garden-room - at the open end so they would be as cold as poss - went sky-high - fairly trying to take the lid off..so much so that I had to "bend" it so it could go out the door!!!!! The perfume was wonderful and filled the sitootery - right through to the kitchen....glorious!
So "tongue-in-cheek" - definitely and those pics of kids standing under them....I guess the conditions must have been optimum and/or the feeding maximum!!!!
I haven't done any trialing for some years now - but used to be a regular for T&M and enjoyed the challenge up here in the NE of Scotland...even more ambitious than where you are...and some real failures too!

Just had a thought Alz....is your sitootery shaded?....that could perhaps explain why Lucy grew tall....reaching for more light?
When we got the bumph from T&M on the tree lilies.....it said that they would grow taller and taller each year and could reach the heady hights of 6-8ft. I don't particularly want them that tall....I want to be able to see and smell the blooms!!

No AA - the sitootery has a clear roof - perspex and one end is open and all the other lilies I put in there for the perfume - did exactly "what it said on the packet" LOL It was just Miss Lucy wot misbehaved!!!
I am tempted to move her outdoors this season - on the other hand I am curious to see what she get up to (literally!!) this year if I leave her to it!
You have , however given me hope for the real Tree Lilies that I grew against the trellis - if they do get taller and taller - as said trellis is a fair old height!
Their perfume certainly filled the garden - which was nice and they bloomed well - they just didn't grow very tall!
