just for contrast the snow in the background makes this first bud of my phalaenopsis look tender and vulnerable...it's seriously cold outdoors...minus 20 C.

the lower window sill temps help "shock" my Phal into bloom! they like temps in the 60's F. and they are more likely to thrive in our optimum environment than most other orchids...except the wildflowers of course... and bloom for ages and ages! So I just let them do their thing and I don't have to wrap them up...best houseplants on the planet!!

Actually it's a thingywotsit anonymosa (which is what I call everything I can't identify). I've even seen people write that in a notebook when I tell them :-D

Is that the Latin term for unidentified plants David LOL. I can never remember the proper names. Not bad at the commonal garden ones. Lori that is very cold. At least all the gardens look the same with the blanket of snow on the top. It's turned colder again here at the moment. We haven't had much sunshine, although yesterday we did have some during the day and it was really nice as it brings out the colours in everything.

oh my! lol... we've had four days of very mild temps...two or three degrees above freezing and yesterday it RAINED....heavily for about five hours! Imagine if it had been colder...we would have been buried in snow! this has been a very serious January thaw.

It's been one of our coldest winter's for years Lori. It's still cold outside O.9 with snow showers expected at the end of the week. I'm off to school this morning with 2 other ladies to do OPen the book and help take assembly. We do this once a week and work puppets or dress up to tell the stories. I love going. Tonight it's a church meeting.
