Clinostigma harlandii

The very tropical Clinostigma harlandii is growing at the San Diego Zoo. This palm is on the verge of extinction on the Island of Vanuatu in the South Pacific. Photo taken Jan. 25, 2010.

There's actually two specimens...the other is to the left of this specimen...not in this photo. The smaller palm to the right is Clinostigma savoryana which is sadly threated with extinction also. : > (

I like the trunk on the left... seems to have equally spaced whitish-grey bands ?

Yes, it a has an absolutely beautiful white and green trunk...which in time will turn white and grey rings.

Good to know this palm is growing well in San Diego, even though endangered on Vanuatu.
