Hi Sandra, yes, have grown some for the past 2 years, just. I always plant the tubers in large plastic pots individually, and put in a sheltered spot. You, of course, can put them in the greenhouse. I just keep mine in the pots to as late as June/July, then transplant to where I want them. Good luck with yours, looking forward to seeing them if you do grow some. :-))
Isn't the colour stunning, ladies? This is what caught my attention, as well as the cactus blooms. Crimson - a great colour for one called "Pirate". :-))

You have such fun with your themes, don't you David? Ahoy there! This looks like a cactus Dahlia. It is a smasher! that's a true red, for sure!

Glad that you all agree with me that it's very eye-catching. Ahoy, Lori! You're right, of course, this is a cactus dahlia. Having now found a "local" nursery offering this for sale this year, I've just discovered that it doesn't do mail order, so will have to collect, next time I'm travelling to Glasgow.

Hi Motinot! Yes, I think I've seen ALL your dahlia pics! Amazing!!!! :-))
Just don't expect to see show standard blooms on our ones, if they grow. I don't have a greenhouse or polytunnel!!

Aye! so are ye doin a J.M.Barrie on us Davey? (I know I'm terribly slow but just got around to watching "Finding Neverland"... sniff...sniff... ) So we can suggest pirate/fairy/crocodile/clock/lostboys/ .... references now? should be fun...will have to take a look and see what can be found...Cheers!

Ahoy, Lori! We are! Our pirates theme was not supposed to start until next year, but this year (9th May to be precise) is being marked as the 150th anniversary of Barrie's birth, so some events taking place. So, while we are looking at pirates both fictional and real, no pirate garden could be without Hook, could it? Any suggestions will be taken onboard (so to speak). :-))

David, who needs greenhouses and polytunnels?...lol.....I dont have them either...:>)

You are a shining light, Motinot!! I got so used to having a greenhouse that I forgot the days before. It's like going back to basics, for me, now! :-))

The only dahlias that survived for me last winter David were the ones in the warmish dark shed that houses the boiler.....

not so good, Motinot, but then, that was one horrible, prolonged winter. Hope your dahlias fare better this time round. :-))

Have just found this variety for sale not far from home, for £1.40 per tuber. Would like to try growing it for our themed garden.
