Amblealice, the flower actually resembles a smaller Magnolia grandiflora - Southern Magnolia flower...however, it has a sweeter fragrance.
Mushybanna, this little tree is in Balboa Park. I one day will purchase a Michelia champaca which is a more beautiful tree and has a sweeter fragrance to its flowers -- if you can believe that. There's many trees here in San Diego...however, it is still a very expensive tree.
