These palms didn't have trunks when they were planted 5 or 6 years ago. Photo taken Feb. 1, 2010.

much faster than i would have expected too. the trunks look smooth..that surprises me too....

Yes, Archontophoenix species can grow extremely fast...especially when they receive a lot of water and fertilizer. These plants seem to get a lot of water due to a good sprinkler system. In its native Queensland, Australia these palms grow along rivers and streams in tropical rain forest.
