What a precious flower! thanks for sharing. Beautiful blue! does it open in the dark?...the background looks very dark in the photo, or is it under your sunlight lamp?

I love it every time. :-) Thanks for looking. I used a flash and it darkened the distance behind, this is a rather large plant and the flower is out in the open air.

This is the one Gilli. I got the treat of seeing both this plant and one of it's babies bloom last year.

Just amazing Gt....is there any special insect that would be attracted by it?

Lovely

Thank you Deida, Janey and Fractal. :-) I'm not sure it attracts insects Janey. Perhaps to crossbreed. A new plant formes in the split te flower make in the leaf. Infact, it splits, filles up with buds which tumble the leaf down to the ground, then flowers, and the new plant plants itself right there. Really an amzing thing. I'll take a shot of last years baby, I left it attached. Somewhat like a spiderplant would.

THank you Lori. I was taking a shot of the whole plant to just show how it all works explaining what it does, and this year another flower popped out too! I got two, just haven't loaded it in yet. :-) Very exciting.

Lovely flowers, GT! I've never seen this one before today. I Iooked at the other photos you uploaded as well. It's simply smashing! :-)

Thanks Balcony. My shy favorite. As I was saying, there has been another bloom since, I've never had it do two before! In the iris family though I don't think it has the same kind of rhizome. Splitting it, you do need a saw.
