No, I haven't taken up playing bowls! Spotted some black ceramic spheres at a GC this morning, and bought 3. Think they make great "cannonballs" for our pirate garden.

Yo Ho Ho, Tt!!!! :-O) I also saw a good shrub - Cotinus "Grace". Known also as "smoke bush" (get it?). Grace O'Malley was a famous Irish female pirate!!
Many Thanks, Lincslass. Never mind future themes, this fits into our current one very well. Sirs Francis Drake and Walter Raleigh were both privateers commissioned by Elizabeth I. You might say that I'm "bowled over" by all the interesting info I'm collecting whilst researching this theme. :-O))
Hi Yorkshire! Am keepin' me one eye open for 'un. Am keepin' me one eye......(now, I'm repeating myself!!). :-))

These look good, David. You can sometimes find very old sets of wooden bowls at boots fairs quite reasonably and they would be very weather proof, if you need more ammunition!

~well done Jim lad!~ or David as the case may be~...

I guess a parrotia might be too big for a pirate garden?

Great idea, Gee, many thanks! The car boot sales will be starting up again soon. Will also put in requests at our local charity shops. :-))
Ahoy, Arrrrrrlene! :-))
Excellent plant suggestion, Andrew. Certainly too big for this pirate garden, though. :-(.. Many Thanks, and you've given me another botanist to research (I enjoy finding out about these folks), FW Parrot. :-))
