New Succulent: Crassula grata (gollum)

I broke down and bought a bag of cacti and succulent soil... before I had just put them in sand... but the bag mix has extra goodies in it and I see a difference...any concern about using the white gravel?

These are in cactus medium but I love the look having them topped with this white gravel. Keeps the soil in the pot and sets the plant apart a little. Just looks clean.

just wondered if it was a calcite of some kind?

I'm not sure. A little glassy stone like an agate would be. It came in a bag called pearl stones. :-)

Gt, how do you water it without spread the gravel everywhere, or move the soil up an turn the gravel brown???

It all stays in there, I planted this about 2cm from the top and the succulents don't need so much water so usually it runs through and is sucked back up from the bottom. It might turn brown though, this is freshly done. It dropped some pieces, I'm hoping its doing okay, I haven't the best luck with succulents.

This is a favorite. We call it trumpet jade. It will get huge. I have one that I trained to grow as a tree.

I hope it does well. It got a black mold issue just after this and dropped some small sections. I think it is so interesting and would love it nice and big. I think it will recover.
