Yes, it is quite an oddity for most people. : > )
They have become more common over the last 20 years. Before then...they could only be seen in botanical gardens and in the San Diego Zoo's collection of several dozen trees.

We don't have bacon trees yet. : > )
However, we have Eggfruit trees (Pouteria), Cucumber tree (Averrhoa bilimbi), Star Fruit tree (Averrhoa carambola), Star Apple tree (Chrysophyllum cainito), Tree Tomato (Cyphomandra betacea), Dragon Fruit (Hylocereus undatus), Dragon's Eye fruit - my favorite fruit, which I can eat a pound of a day in summer (Dimocarpus longana), Custard Apples (Annona reticulata), Strawberry tree - (Arbutus unedo), Lipstick Tree - (Bixa orellana), Sea Grape (Coccoloba uvifera), and Ice Cream Bean - (Inga edulis)...and many more. Most of these trees and plants I have posted on GoY in the past. I could add many more to this list but it would go one forever. LOL! : > )
