I love this. Blooms look alot like Ligularia? Stunning hot yellow on dark stems. Really beautiful. I don't recognize the leaf shape.

GT:

It does look like Ligularia...however, I don't think it is...it grows to more than 10 feet / 3 meters tall. It's also a very woody shrub. I think it might be a species of Daisy Tree (Montanoa) native to Central America.

Mushybanna:

Thanks!

It looks like a type of Senecio from Mexico,, which I saw yesterday in a botanic garden here.

David:

You're correct! It's related to Senecio and commonly called Senecio petasitis. It's native to the mountains of Oaxaca, Mexico.

Wasn't that a coincidence, Delonix!!! Lol! I must have been more observant than I realised. I remember a label saying "Senecio petasitis", no mention of groundsel or roldana. Of course, the specimen I saw yesterday was in a heated glasshouse. :-)

David:

I believe this plant is commonly sold as Senecio petsitis...it's common names are: Velvet Groundsel and California Geranium.

I've seen many of these shrubs, however, I forgot the name...it's sometimes difficult remembering all the botanical names. : >)

I have this..and constantly removing runners, trimming sides. Still, not a real complaint since all that is easily done. Plus the big green velvet leaves and spring blooms have made it a permanent part of my yard...and it does reach near 12' right now.

I think it would love the rain of the Bay Area...anyway, the usually rain you get up there.
