You are so lucky Dawn , how can you stand the excitement of new ' finds ' every day , I had one round the bottom of one of my water barrels once but I never saw it again .. :o(

I feel a bit guilty as I take the wildlife a bit for granted Amy, we've seen alot of newts for a couple of years now. This was lovely, so pretty on its underside.
I thought Toto would identify it?!

It's not a Great crested newt is it Dawn , They are protected , they have a serrated crest along their back in the breeding season , theres a pic. of one in todays paper , , a company building a Travel lodge are in trouble for not putting a newt-proof fence up , the builders damaged and destroyed the newst resting place , it cost them £ 30,000 while the work was stopped to carry out the newt- fencing and they have a criminal conviction .. your pic. looks very much like this one .....

We had our pond about 8 years ago and we've noticed the newts for the last couple of years, I'm so pleased they've arrived.

I know this is a bit late, but ive only just joined,
Have recently moved to a house wih a big pond, i looked these little fellas up as i have so many in my pond and wanted to make sure they had what they needed, they are just called common newts, which aren't THAT common anymore.
