Quite an entrance!

Quite an entrance!

Old cottage style wooden arch leading to the garden, smothered with Spring flowering Clematis Montana 'Elizabeth', and sited next to a Choisya ternata in full bloom. I love the way these plants compliment each other and the scent is unbelievable.

Thanks Bernieh, you can't help but stop and enjoy this entrance when it's in full bloom like this, even if I do have to keep hacking it back otherwise you'd never get passed lol!

Thank you daylily~I am just waiting for this to come back into bloom,as got masses of buds on both! The Clematis Montana 'Elizabeth' is a bit of a monster, like all montanas, but she does flower her heart out for me, though if we didn't give it a good prune atfer, we would never get through the gateway lol! As usual for me, this was more accident than design, but I am so chuffed with it when it looks like this :~)) I also have a late dutch Honeysuckle over the arch, and that smells wonderful as you pass through to go up to the garden, as I am a great believer in companion planting and sensory gardening. Wishing you well with your arbour seating :~))

thanks flori, i have a small philadelphus i was thinking of planting at the side for the scent and then a lager shrub behind this one such as a weigela or choisya which i have also in pots just need to get the border dug out first.!!! and a couple of climbers obviously!!!

It sounds really nice, and scent is so important of an evening , when you have the time to sit down and appreciate it. A garden should fill all the senses, touch, taste, smell, sight and sound. I have restricted sight, and never realised I was creating a sensory garden till someone pointed it out to me,but I wouldn't have it any other way now..........:~))

Choisya is a real plant of extremes don't you think ? The beautiful flowers smell so sweet and then when you crush the foliage it smells like pork luncheon meat - weird !!! Definitely earns it's place in the garden though. :-))

Lol, I have to totally agree with that Muddy ha ha ha! This is full of buds again this year, and if the weather stays kind, should be flowering very soon! I also have the 'Sundance' version too, which is a vibrant lime yellow green. That got hit quite badly by the frosts, but is slowly coming back. :~))

Thank you Bb! It looked good this Spring too~but I always have to cut the Choisya back after it has flowered or we would never get up the garden path lol!
