Phoenix rupicola - Indian Date Palm

This single-trunked slow to moderate growing palm is native to India. This palm is not so widely grown because of its slow growth rate...however, it is very beautiful when it eventually matures to 30 feet / 9 meters tall. Photo taken at Paradise Point Resort, San Diego, CA. on Feb. 26, 2010.

Older trees are especially elegant! I know of many in very old neighborhoods in the San Francisco Bay Area...which are more than 40 feet tall...and look flawless. : > )
