New greenhouse for my desert cacti

New greenhouse for my desert cacti

My new greenhouse for all my desert cacti is up and ready. I've been wanting to put cacti plants outside during the summer for a long time but I couldn't do that because we can get a lot of rain and the plants wouldn't have any protection. I think that this is going to work well for a while. I really would like a larger greenhouse that is much sturdier with poly carb glass but it just isn't in the budget these days. I missed out a a real nice one last year by a couple of days. They were practically giving it away and all I would have needed to do was dismantle it and then set it back up in my garden. It was in real good shape. I'm going to put down newspapers and mulch the ground for the floor.

Good luck with this greenhouse, Mike.
Pity you missed out on the previous greenhouse last year, but I hope you have lots of success with this new acquisition :o)

Looks good, Mike. This looks to have quite a lot of space but we always want more don't we? :)

What a lovely size - I am sure it will do the job for you. One note of caution, the plastic covers don't overwinter very well as the plastic breaks down after a couple of years. Best to take it down and store it each winter, or accept the cost of replacing the covers every couple of years! Six years and three covers later, we bought a'proper' greenhouse with polycarbonate panels -well worth the saving up for. And we re-used the old frames as staging in the new greenhouse.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Wendiam, thanks for the advice on the plastic covers. I was aware of this and that's why the frame sat uncovered all winter. It certainly isn't a problem to take the cover off and put it back on. It took all of five minutes to put it on the other day.

Good luck with them Mike.
