Although hardy, this needs to be planted in full sun so as to ripen the wood for flowering and doesn't seem too fussy about soil. Gets to about five feet but I find it needs a hard pruning (to within one bud or so or the old growth) after the flowers fade, else you finiish up with lots of tangled, unproductive wood. A bit late this year (usually flowers in February for me) but the blooms, which are slightly scented, last no more than three weeks. There is also a form with pale pink flowers

Very delicate flowers........

Err-hemm...I've had one of these for three years - last year it had one flower, this year maybe 6 or 7!! Not enough heat last summer, I assume. Pathetic, compared with Andrew's. :-((.

Mine is 11 years old now. I seem to recall it wasn't too prolific in the early days; I think it's one that improves with age. Although mine faces due south, it does get a bit shaded by a couple of neighbouring shrubs later in the summer

I have never seen this 'in the flesh'. Must get one (if I can find one here)
